“Memory is an illusion, and forgetting is the unavoidable outcome of all experience.” -Sonnabend
The project is about memorializing a span of time and space between two people. 138 random people were posed the same question, and asked to respond spontaneously. 24 preferred not to answer:
Can you remember and describe the first best friend you had in childhood?
Responses were received in eighteen different languages: Italian, English, German, French, Spanish, Norwegian, Polish, Dutch, Swiss-German, Greek, Romanian, Arabic, Hebrew, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Malay, Bangla.

How do you remember a forgotten memory?
To remember means to confront, to appreciate, to resolve. The present consists of everything past. Just as breathing in air comes thoughtlessly to most, so also we forget the power of the subtle changes and minute encounters that shape our lives—even more, those friendships that may have meant so much in the past. In this space for contemplation, the recollection of a person, for a moment lets the memory breathe.
